Hawks Comeback Not Enough to Top BSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Hawks Volleyball (0-5 overall) fell to the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern (2-3 overall) in their non-conference matchup, 3-2.

In the first two sets, the Hawks fell behind early with only 8 kills in set one and 6 kills in the second set, compared to BSC's 18 and 17 respectively.

BSC began with two errors in the third set that opened the door for the Hawks. A five-point Hawks run sponsored by Panther errors and kills from Lindsey Holland and Jessi Hilyer put the Hawks up 17-11. Huntingdon continued to keep their distance and closed out the set without letting the Panthers get within five, 25-20.

Down 2-1 in the game, Huntingdon started the fourth set with two points off BSC errors, two kills, and an ace. Another service ace for the Hawks 14th point and more Panther mess ups boosted the lead to 21-14. Senior, Kennedy Chambers, ended the fourth set with a kill to tie the game at 2-2 and force a fifth set.

In the fifth, the Hawks took the first lead with a kill from Eva Ellenburg. Birmingham-Southern scored three consecutive points to take the set at 3-2 before Huntingdon tied it at four. BSC quickly tried to create space again with four kills and a Hawk error to push it to 9-5. The Hawks refused to give up and brought the set within one point at 14-13. The BSC setter snuck one over to finish the set and take the game, 3-2.
