Hawks Fall to Greensboro and Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Hawks Volleyball fell in day two of the Sewanee Classic to Greensboro (3-0) and Sewanee (3-1).

Game One Against Greensboro:

A 27-25 first set win for Greensboro set the tone for the game. The Hawks battled with 9 kills, but their 10 errors boosted the Pride. Huntingdon held the lead the entire first set and even got up as much as seven points at 18-11 after an error from Greensboro. The Pride quickly caught back up and tied the set at 25 before two Hawk attack errors ended the set 27-25.

In the second set, the Hawks got down early 5-1 and struggled to decrease the deficit which lifted Greensboro up 2-0 in the game.

Huntingdon took the lead in the third set as they looked to turn the game around. However, the Pride tied it at eight and took the indefinite lead on their 12th point to close out the game.

Game Two Against Sewanee:

Sewanee took an early 4-1 lead on the Hawks before they tied the set at five and took the lead at six with a kill by Sara Scott. Points went back and forth until the Tigers took over with two kills and two Hawk errors (14-10). Two more errors from the Hawks and a kill by the University of the South set them up for a set one win.

The Hawks took set two after trailing the Tigers for the first ten points. A Sewanee error gave Huntingdon the lead and kills from Eva Ellenburg and Izzy Valldeperas left the game tied at 1-1.

In the final two sets Sewanee combined for 30 kills while the Hawks only had 18. Even as the Hawks continued to fight back, they fell in both sets, 25-21 and 25-20.

#21 Izzy Valldeperas – 14 Kills, 5 Aces, 10 Digs, 19.5 Points

#3 Jessi Hilyer – 16 Assists, 16 Digs

 

The Hawks return to action in the Millsaps Tournament next Friday and Saturday against the University of Dallas and Millsaps.
