Hawks Fall in Five to MUW

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon Volleyball (4-13 overall, 4-2 CCS) fell in five sets to non-conference opponent MUW (3-9 overall, 1-4 conf.) with a final score of 3-2.

Kennedy Chambers five first set kills lifted the Hawks to a 25-10 win. With six block assists from Chambers and Eva Ellenburg the Hawks' momentum never shifted to the Owls. MUW was unable to answer Huntingdon's 13 kills with only two errors. Whereas the Owls had more errors than kills with 7 and 6.

In the second, Izzy Valldeperas took over with 4 kills and 10 digs for her team. The set changed leads four times with seven ties as the Owls and Hawks battled out a 25-22 final that left MUW on top. Huntingdon's eight errors dug a hole and kept the Owls in the game.

Now tied at 1-1, a big third set for the Hawks consisted of another 25-23 battle on the court. Valldeperas still showed strength, adding five more kills in the set victory. Huntingdon got up as much at seven in the third after a service error at 20-13. The Owls continued to fight, adding eight kills for the set but their seven errors deemed success for the Scarlett and Grey.

Looking to take the game in four, the Hawks held the lead until the seventh point. After that the game went back and forth until the Owls took a three-point lead from a Hawk's attacking error and a kill. Huntingdon was unable to tie the set which sent the game to five.

The fifth set was another close one as each team battled for the win. The Hawks started strong at 2-0 from a kill by Ashlen Janowski and an Owl's error. MUW tied the game at 11, forcing the Hawks to take a timeout. After the timeout a Hawk's attacking error put MUW on top to take the lead and the win at 15-13.
