Hawks Defeat Agnes Scott and Fall to Covenant

DECATUR, Ga. – Huntingdon Volleyball (7-15 overall, 6-4 CCS) defeated Agnes Scott 3-2 and fell to Covenant College 3-0 in a CCS Tri-Match hosted by the Scotties.

Game One Against Covenant:

In set one the Scots posted 16 kills compared to the Hawks 7. After a close first six points, Covenant took a 5-0 run and turned it into motivation to keep distance and capture a first set win at 25-12.

The Scots continued to show why they are undefeated in CCS play with a second set win of 25-13. The Hawks eight errors factored into the second set defeat with only 8 kills to tag along.

The Hawks jumped up to a quick lead in the third set and held strong holding the lead the entire set until the 21-19 mark. After that, the Scots took the lead with a 5-0 run for the 24-22 lead and finished the game with their 14th kill.

Game Two Against Agnes Scott:

The Scotties' nine errors in the first set boosted the Hawks who added in 10 kills. At 25-13, Lydia Hitchcock's service ace finalized the first set.

Huntingdon never held the lead in the second set, after trading points until the 17-16 mark, Agnes hit a three-point run to create separation. After their small run, the Scotties ended the set 25-22 over the Hawks.

Having momentum for the third set, Agnes continued to fire at the Hawks with 18 kills to go up in the game 2-0 after defeating Huntingdon in the third 25-18.

Unphased, the Hawks took control in the fourth and answered with 11 kills of their own. The Scotties added 10 points for Huntingdon off errors and forced a set five as the Hawks took the win at 25-14.

In a tight fifth set, the Scotties had one more kill than the Hawks, but Huntingdon deemed victorious with only one error. A 6-3 lead looked promising for Huntingdon, but Agnes never gave up and took the lead at 9-8. Lindsey Holland downed the final kill of the game at 15-14 and the Scotties handed the Hawks the victory with two final set errors.

The Hawks will return to CCS action on Tuesday at Belhaven University, game time set for 6:00 PM CT.
