Hawks Sweep CCS Tri-Match at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Huntingdon Volleyball (9-16 overall, 8-5 CCS) defeated the Scots of Maryville and the Wolves of Wesleyan in today's road tri-match with scores of 3-0 in both matches.

Key Note: Ashlen Janowski has been hot for the Hawks with a total of 27 kills throughout two games she has benefited the Hawks in their victories.

Game One Against Maryville:

In this season rematch the Hawks had something to prove after falling in the first game in a close five set match.

Hawks dictated early with 14 first set kills and the Scots adding 7 points off errors. With the match back and forth until the 11th point, three points from the Hawks sparked by a kill from Eva Ellenburg jump started the first set victory. Huntingdon kept a five point distance to finish, beginning with the 16th point, Kennedy Chambers threw down three kills to boost the Hawks to a 25-20 win.

An astounding second set for Huntingdon was deemed close to perfect with zero errors and 17 kills in a 25-12 set win. They held the Scots to 5 kills and eight errors in the second. Four straight kills from the Hawks at the 20th point left Maryville unable to fight back. 

Huntingdon had all the momentum heading into the third set with Ellenburg claiming the indefinite lead with a kill for the Hawks second point. The Hawks rolled on to a sweep with a 25-16 third set score and 14 more kills, again the Scots aiding with seven errors.

Match Two Against Wesleyan:

The Hawks combined for 37 kills in the match and held Wesleyan under 10 kills for each set. With remarkable scores in the first and second sets (25-15 and 25-14), Huntingdon took a 2-0 lead heading into the third. 

Wesleyan stepped up their game and caused the Hawks to fight from behind as they took an 11-5 lead. However, Huntingdon clawed their way back in with kills from Janowski, Chambers, and Hannah Stubbs to tie the game at 12. The Wolves still held on to the lead until Janowski fired one over the net to claim back their game lead at 15-14. From that point on Huntingdon controlled the set and completed the road sweep.

The Hawks return to action next Wednesday at LaGrange College, game time set for 6:00 PM CT.
