Hawks Historic First Season Concludes at NCWWC National Championship

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA- Huntingdon women's wrestling historic first season came to an end at the NCWWC National Championship Tournament. Qualifiers Raya Carpenter and Shelby Fugate, each freshman, fought their way to the tournament and earned the first National Championship bids in the history of Huntingdon women's wrestling.

"The girls showed to everyone that they deserve to be there competing on the national stage", stated Director of Wrestling Matt Oliver. "This was the first step in the development of our program. We will be back better than ever next year, with more girls qualifying for the tournament. This is only our first year competing, and our program is set to double in size next year with the recruiting we have, so we are even more excited about the future of our program."

"This season has been filled with plenty of firsts for our program", shared Women's Wrestling Coach Lillian Humphries. "We really went into this year as underdogs and people weren't expecting much, but our whole team really showed people that we are here and here to stay. Raya and Shelby has set the bar high for us and both have shown that they deserve to wrestle at this level. We're excited for next season as we are bringing in a lot of talent and doubling in size, we hope to qualify even more girls and show the country what Huntingdon is building."
