Hawks win tight one on the road

PENSACOLA, Fl.- Huntingdon Men's Basketball (6-5 Overall), hold on to win over Pensacola Christian (2-10 Overall), 77-73. 

 

Highlights

 

First Half

  • The Hawks came ready to play, as they jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with 17:31 left in the first half, capped off by a Max Gardner jumper.
  • With 13:37 remaining in the first half, the Eagles would respond with a 10-0 run to take the lead 13-8.
  • A layup by Marcus Townsend would give the Hawks the lead back with 6:17 on the clock for the first half, making the score 25-24.
  • At the 4:00 mark in the first half, Pensacola Christian would hit a shot from three point range, to take back the lead, which made the score 29-27.
  • With 2:39 remaining in the first half, BJ Brown for the Hawks would convert an and 1 opportunity, giving the Hawks the lead once again at 30-29.
  • Huntingdon would score six straight points, including a Nate Johns slam dunk with 0:27 left in the first half.
  • Pensacola Christian would close out the half with a layup with 0:02 remaining in the half, to cut their deficit to 36-32.

 

Second Half

  • To open up the second half, both teams would trade baskets, but a layup by Randall Davis with 16:16 left in the game would extend the Hawks lead to 6, making the score 44-38.
  • With 15:33 remaining in the game, BJ Brown hit a shot from deep that would extend the Huntingdon lead to double digits, 50-40.
  • At the 11:53 mark, the Eagles hit on back to back three pointers to cut their deficit down to one point, which made the score 54-53.
  • Two made free throws by Pensacola Christian would tie the game up at 57 a piece, with 10:44 left in the game.
  • A made free throw by Jaylen Washington, with 8:14 remaining in the game, would cap off a 7-0 run for the Hawks as they extended their lead to 66-59.
  • With 2:57 remaining in the ball game, Pensacola Christian would make a three point basket to cut the lead to 70-68.
  • Over the next couple of minutes, both teams stepped up defensively, but a clutch shot from deep by Myles Murphy at the 0:55 mark, would give the Hawks some breathing room as they stretched their lead out to 73-68.
  • The score at the end of the game was 77-73.

 

Key Notes

  • Pensacola Christian shot 35% from the field, while shooting 24% from three point range, while Huntingdon shot 42% from the field, meanwhile they shot 22% from deep.
  • The Eagles shot 81% from the free throw line, while the Hawks drilled 72% of their shots from the line.
  • The Hawks shot 46% from the field in the second half, while going 30% on three pointers.
  • The Hawks outrebounded the Eagles 38-34.
  • Huntingdon's subs were able to provide relief as the Hawks bench outscored the Eagles bench, 31-8.
