Scots Hot Shooting Drowns The Hawks

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- Huntingdon men's basketball (8-8 overall, 2-1 CCS) fell to the Maryville Scots (10-5 overall, 2-1 CCS) 109-68 in Roland Arena.

 

How it happened

 

First half

  • The Scots got out of the gate quick, taking an 11-2 lead 2 minutes in

  • A three point shot from Myles Murphy at the 15:41 mark shrunk the Scot lead to 13-7

  • Maryville responded to Murphy's triple with a 13 point run, extending their lead to 28-7

  • Freshman BJ Brown sank a shot from deep with 5:44 remaining in the half to cut into the Scot lead, bringing the score to 43-20

  • The Scots answered with a 9 point run to push their lead back to 52-22 with 2 minutes to go in the half

  • A jumpshot from Marcus Townsend brought the score to 57-24 at the halftime break

 

Second half

  • The Scots remained hot in the second half, burying three back-to-back shots from deep, pushing their lead to 68-26 with 17:14 to go

  • The Hawks continued to battle, with baskets from Tate Goolesby, Max Gardner, and Nate Johns matching the early points from Maryville

  • Jaylen Washington's shot from deep brought the score to 92-46 with 10 minutes to go

  • With 8:23 to go, Marcus Townsend threw down a ferocious dunk off of a steal to make the score 97-52

  • In the end, the Hawks could not match the hot shooting from the Scots, falling 109-68

  • Maryville shot 56% from the field and 63% from three

  • The Hawks forced 12 turnovers from Maryville and scored 9 points from those opportunities

  • The Scots held the lead for the duration of the game
