Hawks Fall In Battle With Berea

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- Huntingdon men's basketball (8-9 overall, 2-2 CCS) was defeated by the Berea Mountaineers (8-9 overall, 3-1 CCS) 75-71.

 

How it happened

 

First Half

  • Tate Goolesby opened the scoring for the Hawks with a triple on their opening possession

  • Huntingdon followed Goolesby's triple with a 9-2 scoring run, taking a 14-4 lead with 13:21 remaining in the half

  • An 8-2 run from Berea cut the Hawks lead in half at the 10 minute mark, but a three pointer from Jaylen Washington pushed the Hawks lead back to 19-12

  • Two free throws from Myles Murphy brought Huntingdon's lead back to double digits, 28-18 with 6:26 to go until halftime

  • 5 more points from Murphy extended the Hawks lead to 33-20 with 5 minutes left in the half

  • Berea went on a 6-2 scoring run, bringing the Hawks lead to 42-31 at the half

 

Second half

  • The Hawks came out of the halftime break with 3 quick points from Max Gardner and Jaylen Washington to push their lead to 45-31

  • Marcus Townsend quieted a 5-0 run from the Mountaineers with a triple, holding the Hawks lead at 48-37 with 17:32 to go

  • Two Berea free throws shrunk the Huntingdon lead to 53-43 with 15:10 left, sparking a 5-0 run to make the score 53-48

  • BJ Brown put in a layup to push Huntingdon's lead back to 57-48 with 13 minutes to go

  • Nate Johns ended another 5-0 run from the Mountaineers with a dunk to make the score 62-56 at the 8:33 mark

  • A 6-0 run from Berea reduced Huntingdon's lead to 66-64 with 6:25 remaining

  • A Mountaineer layup at the 3:29 mark gave Berea a 72-71 lead

  • Holding on to a 3 point advantage, Berea knocked down 2 free throws in the final ten seconds to hold off the Hawks, winning 75-71.

  • Huntingdon's bench outscored Berea's 24-10
