Hawks Take Down LaGrange To End Regular Season

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In their final regular season showdown, Huntingdon men's basketball (12-13 overall, 6-6 CCS) took down the Panthers of LaGrange (14-11 overall, 6-5 CCS) 100-81.

How it happened

 

First half

  • Freshman star BJ Brown opened the game for Huntingdon with back-to-back three point shots to give the Hawks a 6-6 lead in the first minute and a half

  • A 10-2 Panther run gave LaGrange a 15-10 lead at the 14:56 mark

  • The Hawks responded with a 12-0 run, with Max Gardner and Nate Johns leading the way to put Huntingdon back in front 26-22 at the 8:49 mark

  • The Hawks earned a double digit lead at the 4:13 mark following a 10-4 run capped off by a layup from Nate Johns

  • Johns threw down a dunk with 49 seconds remaining in the half to give the Hawks a 43-29 lead headed into the second half

 

Second half

  • Still applying pressure, Tate Goolesby knocked down a three pointer to push the Hawks lead to 48-33 by the 18:31 mark

  • Consecutive mid range shots from BJ Brown extended the lead to 52-35

  • A 5-0 Panther run cut the lead to 52-40 with 16:38 remaining 

  • Jaylen Washington finished a layup through contact in transition to bring the lead back to 61-45 at the 14:20 mark

  • Leading 70-56 with 10 minutes remaining, DaQuan Hawkins made two three pointers to push the lead to 76-58

  • A pair of free throws from Nate Johns gave the Hawks a 89-69 lead with 5:24 to go

  • Jeremy Autin knocked down consecutive shots from deep with two and a half minutes remaining to extend the lead to 97-75

  • Myles Johnson iced the game away with 44 seconds remaining, giving Huntingdon a 100-81 victory.

  • The Hawks were hot, shooting 52% from the field and 39% from three

  • The Hawks earned 22 assists compared to 9 from LaGrange

  • After earning the lead midway through the first half, the Hawks led the rest of the game

 

Hawk Top Performers

 

The Hawks enter the CCS Championship tournament as the 5th seed, finishing the regular swason in a three-way tie for third place. The Hawks will be traveling to LaGrange for a rematch with the Panthers on February 20th in the first round. Tip off is set for 6:00 PM CT.
