Women’s tennis ranked 2nd, men ranked 4th in USA South preseason polls

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  – The Huntingdon women's tennis team in ranked second in the West Division and the men's tennis team is ranked fourth with the release of the USA South preseason polls on Thursday.

The Huntingdon women totaled 53 points in the West Division poll. Piedmont, the 2019 West Division champion, is the preseason favorite in the West with eight first-place votes and 64 points. Brevard is third with 48 points and Covenant is fourth with one first-place vote and 43 points.

Rounding out the West Division are No. 5 Maryville (36 points), No. 6 LaGrange (35 points), No. 7 Wesleyan (17 points), No. 8 Agnes Scott (15 points) and No. 9 Berea (13 points).

Two-time defending USA South Tournament champion North Carolina Wesleyan is the preseason favorite in the East poll with eight first-place votes and 64 points. Methodist is second with one first-place votes and 56 points.

On the men's side, the fourth-place Hawks earned 19 points in the West Division poll. Piedmont, the 2019 West Division champion, is the preseason No. 1 with three first-place votes and 33 points. LaGrange is second with three first-place votes and 32 points and Covenant is third with one first-place vote and 28 points.

Behind Huntingdon, Brevard is fifth with 18 points, Berea is sixth with nine points and Maryville is seventh with eight points.

Eleven-time defending conference champion North Carolina Wesleyan leads the East Division poll with six first-place votes and 36 points. Methodist is second with one first-place vote and 30 points.

The Huntingdon women open the season on Feb. 15 on the road against Fort Valley State and Albany State. The men open the season on Feb. 15 at Tuskegee.
