Veronica Tikhomirova and Isabelle Valldeperas Receive AVCA Top Flight Award for Flight 2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon's Beach Volleyball team has been recognized for their second flight pair, Veronica Tikhomirova and Isabelle Valldeperas by the AVCA.

The pair is the first to earn this honor for the Hawks as they posted a 19-6 record this season while finishing 4th in the nation. They have many accomplishments this season, one being their defeat over the #2 pair from Hendrix (TWICE) who later went on to be named the National Champions.

"It is crazy to think we are the first team in history to accomplish this," said Veronica when being recognized by the AVCA.

Izzy and Vee also claimed victories over D1 Jacksonville State, the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, and Nebraska. The two also defeated Division II, Florida Southern!

The two will remain together and Izzy says, "This is just a step to what we are going to accomplish during our career."

"They truly took advantage of every training opportunity and were committed to focusing on growing their skill set..." said Coach Latonia Brady on the pair. "They continued to improve every week of the season and regardless of the level of play, they remained steady and connected." Coach Brady is "ready to watch them rise again for the 2024 season!"

About "Top Flight" Status:

The Top Flight awards program is designed to recognize excellence in collegiate beach volleyball from all over the country and across all flights. The nature of Beach Volleyball dictates that each player fills an important role on the team - each pair must give their greatest effort to help the squad clinch the three wins necessary to defeat the opponent. It takes all 10 athletes performing at a high level to achieve greatness. With this in mind, the AVCA created this award to reward the hard work and consistent play of pairs at every flight. In order for a pair to be eligible for the award, two athletes must compete in at least 15 matches together and at a specific flight number. Should that pair win at least 75% of their matches – regardless of the overall result of the dual – those athletes will achieve "Top Flight" status.
