Huntingdon opens play in Rox Small College National Championship

SIESTA KEY, Fla. – The Huntingdon beach volleyball team lost a pair of team matches on Saturday but won one individual match on the opening day of the Rox Small College National Championship.

Huntingdon lost 5-0 to Division II Eckerd College and 4-1 to NAIA Warner University.

Huntingdon's No. 2 team of Shelby Young and Alexis Creasman won 21-18, 14-21, 15-10 against Warner. The win was the fifth of the season for the first-year Hawks (1-16).

In the win, Young had 14 aces and nine digs and Creasman had six digs and four kills.

Against the Royals, Huntingdon's No. 1 team of Audrianna Hargitt and Bria Rochelle lost 21-17, 21-6, the No. 3 team of Lexie DeVuyst and Alex Hillman lost 21-8, 21-17, the No. 4 team of Bethann Bullard and Samm Mamon lost 21-11, 21-15 and the No. 5 team of Gabby Hughes and Devyn Stringer lost 21-13, 21-18.

In the opening match of the day against Eckerd, Rochelle-Hargitt lost 21-13, 21-10, Young-Creasman lost 21-18, 21-11, DeVuyst-Hillman lost 21-12, 21-9, Mamon-Bullard lost 21-3, 21-11 and Hughes-Stringer lost 21-12, 21-10.

Rochelle finished the day with 30 digs and 13 kills and Hargitt had 18 kills, 10 digs and five blocks against Warner. Young recorded 22 digs and had 14 service aces in the win against Warner while Creasman had 17 digs and 14 kills. 

DeVuyst tallied 18 digs and eight service aces and Hillman totaled 29 digs and 11 kills. Hughes recorded 19 digs and Stringer had 27 digs and 14 kills.
