Beach volleyball opens season with pair of wins

WAVELAND, Miss.  – The Huntingdon beach volleyball team opened the season with two wins in William Carey's Battle of the Bay tournament on Friday.

The Hawks beat William Carey 4-1 and downed LaGrange College 5-0.

The two victories mark the first 2-0 start for the fourth-year Hawks. Huntingdon's win over LaGrange was just the second 5-0 victory for the Hawks in program history.

Huntingdon's win against William Carey was the second in two meetings against the NAIA Crusaders. The LaGrange match was the first in program history for the first-year Panthers.

Huntingdon's No. 1 team (Amy Tyma and April Reese), No. 2 team (Shelby Freese and Jessica Brunk), No. 3 team (Addison Genard and Lauren Hinton) and No. 4 team (Shelby McAllister and Morgan Ilsley) were each 2-0 for the day. The No. 5 team (Camryn Rogers and Taylor Damian) went 1-1 with a win against LaGrange.
