Huntingdon drops Game 3, but wins series with 16th-ranked Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team fell behind early on Saturday, rallied in the middle innings but couldn't catch 16th-ranked Piedmont in a 10-5 loss.

Despite the loss, the Hawks picked up two wins in the three-game series. Huntingdon (21-10, 4-2 Great South Athletic Conference) took the first two games of the series 4-0 and 3-0 on Friday.

The Hawks limited Piedmont to five hits in the first two games. In the final game, Piedmont (21-11, 3-3 GSAC) finished with 17 hits.

The Lions jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first three innings on Saturday before Huntingdon cut it to 7-5 in the top of the seventh inning. Piedmont scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull back ahead.

Joseph Odom singled in Seth Currie for the Hawks' first run of the game. Trailing 7-1, Huntingdon scored two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. In the sixth, Jordan Freeman doubled to score Trey Smith and Freeman scored on an Evan Agnew sacrifice fly. In the seventh, Grant Brown singled to score Currie and Brown scored on a single by Smith.

Smith finished 3-for-4 and Odom, Brown and Freeman each had two hits.

Joseph Fincher (2-1) took the loss for the Hawks.

Huntingdon returns to action on April 13, hosting LaGrange in the first of a three-game conference series at Posey Field.
