Huntingdon stumbles in Game 3 of Greensboro series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team built a seven-run lead in the first two innings but lost to Greensboro 10-8 on Sunday.

Huntingdon won the first two games of the series 12-0 on Friday and 9-2 on Saturday.

In Sunday's Game 3, the Hawks (10-6, 2-1 USA South) led 7-0 after two innings before Greensboro (5-13, 1-2 USA South) scored two runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning to take the lead.

After falling behind 9-7 in the top of the fifth inning, Huntingdon had opportunities but could not capitalize. The Hawks left eight runners on base in the final five innings. Huntingdon ended the fifth inning with the bases loaded and ended the game with runners on second and third.

Cheston Wesson had three RBIs, a run and two hits for Huntingdon. He was one of four Hawks to finish with multiple hits. Jay Jordan was 3-for-4 with a run, Patrick Kucera was 2-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases and Mason Throneberry was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Anthony Spivey had two RBIs and a run, Dakota Beane drove in one run and Alec Raley, Jordan Criswell and Hunter Bower each scored one run.

Early in the game, Huntingdon appeared in control. Kucera scored the first run of the game on a passed ball before RBI singles by Spivey, Wesson and Throneberry made it 4-0 in the first inning.

A sacrifice fly by Spivey and a two-run double by Wesson made it 7-0 in the second inning. Huntingdon scored its final run on an RBI single by Beane in the seventh inning.

Jared Gonzalez (2-2) took the loss in 3 2/3 innings.

Huntingdon returns to action on Tuesday at Birmingham-Southern at 6 p.m.
