Hawks fall to Birmingham-Southern in Top-25 battle

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 13th-ranked Huntingdon baseball team came up short in a 6-3 loss to 23rd-ranked Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday night.

The Hawks (16-4) carried a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning before Birmingham-Southern (16-6) tied the game with one run in the seventh and took the lead with three runs in the eighth inning.

Will Cosby accounted for four of the Hawks' nine hits and finished 4-for-4 with two runs. Andrew Knight, Tri Overby and Chris Fisher each had one RBI and Heath Haskins scored one run.

Birmingham-Southern took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Hawks answered. Haskins scored on a sacrifice fly by Knight in the bottom of the first and Huntingdon tied the game in the second inning when Overby singled to drive in Cosby.

In the fourth inning, Fisher singled to drive in Cosby and give Huntingdon a 3-2 lead. The lead stood until the seventh inning.

Tucker Duke (3-1) took the loss in relief.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action with a three-game conference series against 17th-ranked Methodist this weekend. Game 1 is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
