Hawks split with Rhodes in Firehouse Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon baseball team closed out the Firehouse Classic with a split against Rhodes College on Sunday.

Huntingdon won the first game 6-3 before losing the second game 8-3.

Brooks Freeman (1-0) earned the win in Game 1, striking out five, walking one, hitting one batter and allowing five hits and one run in six innings. John Crawford closed the game, earning his second save in as many appearances.

Huntingdon finished Game 1 with just four hits, but took control with five runs in the second inning. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Andrew Knight scored on an error to tie the game.

Wes Powell drew a bases-loaded walk to score Adams Bragg and Bradley Harris scored on a wild pitch to give Huntingdon a 3-1 lead. Chris Fisher and Powell each scored on a Rhodes error to make it 5-1.

Huntingdon made it 6-2 in the seventh inning when Powell scored on a single by Colton Clark.

In Game 2, Clark was 3-for-5 with an RBI and Ryan Meadows was 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run. Fisher had an RBI and a run and Harris scored one run.

Huntingdon fell behind 2-0 in the second inning. Rhodes added three runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-0 lead.

Wallace Henry (0-1) took the loss in five innings.

Coming Up: Huntingdon will host Lynchburg on Friday at 5 p.m. in the Five Points Deli Tournament. Emory and Millsaps will play in the first game of the tournament on Friday at 1 p.m.
