Baseball splits with Emory

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon baseball team split a doubleheader with Emory on Saturday.

The Hawks lost the first game 13-12 and closed the day with a 6-5 win.

Colton Clark and Andrew Knight combined for 10 of the Hawks' 20 hits in the doubleheader. Clark was 5-for-10 with a grand slam, six RBIs, four runs and a double and Knight was 5-for-9 with one RBI, two runs and two doubles.

In Game 1, the two teams carried a 6-6 tie into the seventh inning before Emory scored five runs in the seventh inning and two runs in the eighth inning to take a 13-7 lead. Behind Clark's grand slam, the Hawks scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth but could not complete the comeback.

Clark finished the game 4-for-6 with five RBIs and four runs and Knight was 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs. Colin Whibbs had two hits, two RBIs and a run and Jacob Pitts had three hits and a run.

Adams Bragg had two RBIs, Wes Powell and Jake Elrod each had one RBI and one run and Cullen Stafford and Matthew Robinson each scored one run.

Patrick Sawyer (2-1) took the loss in 1 1/3 innings of relief. John Crawford (1-0) earned the win in Game 2, striking out five, walking two and allowing three hits and one run in four innings of relief.

In the final game, the Hawks trailed 4-3 after six innings before taking the lead for good with three runs in the seventh inning.

Ryan Greene and Ryan Meadows each had an RBI and a run. Clark and Whibbs each had one RBI, Powell, Stafford, Pitts and Hall Billings each scored one run and Knight had two hits.

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play a three-game non-conference series at Piedmont beginning on Friday. Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. (Central).
