Hawks Split Home Double-Header With MUW

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In a home double-header, Huntingdon baseball (7-6 overall) split matches with the Mississippi University For Women (8-5 overall), winning the first game 11-2 and dropping the second 4-2.

 

Game one

 

Highlights

  • MUW got on the board first, earning two runs off a single to center field in the first inning

  • In the next frame, Noah Phillips brought home the first Huntingdon run of the game off a wild pitch

  • Not long after, a passed ball allowed for Daniel Patton to cross home plate and tie the game at 2.

  • At the following at bat, Cade Morgan scored on a balk to make the score 3-2

  • Matthew Robinson made his way home on a passed ball in the same frame to put Huntingdon ahead 4-2 entering the second inning

  • Still hot, Daniel Phillips hit a double to left field, bringing Noah Phillips home to push the lead to 5-1

  • Daniel Patton returned the favor with a single in the following at bat to bring Daniel Phillips home for the Hawks 6th run of the day

  • Still rolling, Matthew Robinson earned a single that brought Daniel Patton home to put Huntingdon ahead 7-2

  • In the bottom of the third, MUW forced a double play, but Noah Phillips still found home plate to make the score 9-2

  • A sacrifice bunt from Jabez Sampson in the bottom of the fourth inning secured a run for Davis Johnson, giving the Hawks a 10-2 lead

  • To ice the game, rbi's from Matthew Robinson and Davis Johnson brought home Daniel Patton and Byron McClain to give Huntingdon a 11-2 victory.

 

On the mound

  • Seth Killam earned the win for the Hawks and pitched a complete game, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5 Owls en route to victory.

 

Game two

 

Highlights

  • Following a scoreless first inning, Jabez Sampson got the Hawks on the board in the bottom of the second with a double that brought Christian Lasecki home to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead

  • In response, MUW hammered a two-run home run to give the Owls a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning

  • In the next two innings, MUW was able to find home plate, putting the Owls ahead 4-1 entering the 7th and final inning

  • In the final frame, Daniel Phillips made his way home off of a double play, but the Hawks could not find a groove to close out the game, taking a 4-2 loss

 

On the mound

  • Michael Driver started the game for Huntingdon, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts

  • Jackson Joiner followed Driver, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits 

  • Sam Tompkins closed the game for Huntingdon,only allowing one hit and not giving up any runs

 

The Hawks look to bounce back on March 15th, facing off against Wisconsin-Platteville in Pensacola, Florida. Gametime is scheduled for 10:00 AM CT.
