Hawks Split First Two Games Of Conference-Opening Series Against Covenant

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- On the first day of the conference-opening series, Huntingdon baseball(10-8 overall, 1-1 CCS) split games with the Scots of Covenant College(8-12 overall, 1-1 CCS), dropping the first game 6-0, but recovering to earn a 13-3 win in the second game.

 

Game one highlights

  • Through the first two innings, each team's defenses dominated, not allowing any runs to be scored. Freshman pitcher Jable Ramey drew the start for Huntingdon and commanded the game from the mound, only allowing one base hit.

  • The Scots got on the board in the top frame of the third inning with a double to center field

  • With Huntingdon unable to respond in the following frame, Covenant extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning, scoring two runs off of a single and a Huntingdon error

  • Still unable to find a groove at the plate, the Hawks only managed to earn one base hit in the fourth inning before being put away.

  • Covenant continued to grow their lead with a run in the fifth inning, pushing their lead to 4-0

  • Following another scoreless Huntingdon frame, the Scots earned their 5th run of the game with a single in the 6th inning

  • The scoring came to a close in the eighth inning with a Covenant runner scoring on a passed ball, giving the Scots a 6-0 victory.

On the mound

  • Jable Ramey started for the Hawks, allowing four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts

  • Gavin Gomez took over for Ramey in the 5th inning, allowing two runs on 2 hits while striking out three Scot batters

  • Will Argo closed the game for Huntingdon, not allowing any runs or hits and striking out one batter

 

Game two highlights

  • The Scots jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring on three singles

  • In the bottom frame, Matthew Robinson got the Hawks on the board for the first time in the series with a single bringing home Daniel Phillips

  • After putting away six consecutive Covenant batters in the second and third innings, Daniel Phillips earned his second run of the day off a ground out from Noah Phillips to put Huntingdon behind 3-2

  • Matthew Robinson hit a solo home run in the following at bat to even the score at 3

  • Not done yet, Christian Lasecki doubled to down the left side, bringing home Davis Johnson and Daniel Patton to give the Hawks a 5-3 lead entering the 4th inning

  • The Hawks kept pouring it on, with singles from Noah Phillips and Matthew Robinson to kick off the bottom of the fourth pushing Huntingdon's lead to 7-3

  • Davis Johnson got hit by a pitch within the same frame, allowing Noah Phillips to extend the lead to 8-3

  • To close the frame, a single from Christian Lasecki brought home Matthew Robinson to put Huntingdon ahead 9-3 entering the fifth inning

  • A groundout from Daniel Patton in the sixth inning secured the Hawks 10th run of the game with Noah Phillips crossing home plate

  • To close the game in seven innings, Daniel Phillips doubled to right field, bringing home Jabez Sampson and Christian Lasecki to put Huntingdon ahead 12-3, and Daniel Phillips scored the Hawks 13th run off a Covenant error to give Huntingdon a 13-3 victory

On the mound

  • JB Landrum started on the mound for Huntingdon, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits

  • Seth Killam relieved Landrum and earned the victory for Huntingdon, pitching eight innings and only allowing one base hit en route to victory

 

The Hawks return to Neal Posey Field on March 25th at 12:00 PM CT for the final series game against Covenant.
