Hawks Complete Series Sweep Against Berea

BEREA,KY.- In the final game of their second conference series, Huntingdon baseball(14-8 overall, 5-1 CCS) defeated the Berea Mountaineers(5-18 overall, 0-6 CCS) 17-3 in seven dominant innings. Huntingdon's scoring attack was spread throughout the lineup, with seven different Hawks earning RBI's throughout the game. Huntingdon's pitchers also contributed by controlling the mound, limiting the Mountaineers to just seven base hits.

 

Highlights

  • Picking up where he left off yesterday, Daniel Phillips hit a single shot home run at the opening at-bat to put the Hawks ahead 1-0 early

  • Later within the same frame, Matthew Robinson flew out to right field, allowing Noah Phillips to score and put Huntingdon ahead 2-0 entering the bottom frame

  • Cade Morgan put the Hawks ahead 3-0 with a ground out that brought home Jordan Raley in the second inning

  • Still holding the Mountaineers without a base hit, the Hawks next run came in the third inning, with Daniel Patton making his way home off a Berea error to push the lead to 4-0

  • Daniel Phillips made his way home off an error in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 5-0

  • A Daniel Patton single later in the frame brought home Noah Phillips, which Davis Johnson followed with a double to bring in Patton and put the Hawks ahead 7-0

  • Still without a hit, the Mountaineers earned the first run in the fourth inning with a walk, making the score 7-1

  • The Hawks exploded in the fifth inning with eight runs. Noah Phillips kicked off the scoring with a sacrifice fly to bring in Jordan Raley

  • A wild pitch allowed for Daniel Phillips to cross home plate at the following at bat to bring the score to 9-1

  • Matthew Robinson doubled to bring in Cade Morgan for the Hawks 10th run and third of the frame

  • A Mountaineer error allowed Matthew Robinson to cross home plate and put Huntingdon ahead 11-1

  • Davis Johnson hit his second double of the afternoon to secure a run from Daniel Patton and put Huntingdon ahead 12-1

  • Still pouring it on, Jordan Raley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing in Davis Johnson to bring the score to 13-1

  • The Mountaineers hit Daniel Phillips with a pitch at the next at bat to bring in Christian Lasecki for the Hawks fourteenth run.

  • Jabez Sampson crossed home plate off a Cade Morgan at-bat to end the frame with the Hawks holding a 15-1 lead

  • After a scoreless sixth inning, Jabez Sampson found his way to home plate off a single from Cade Morgan to extend the lead to 16-1

  • The Hawks seventeenth and final run came from Daniel Phillips off a single from his brother, Noah Phillips

  • The Mountaineers managed to earn two runs in the final frame, but it would not be enough to overcome the Hawks lead, giving Huntingdon a 17-3 victory

On the mound

  • Michael Driver drew the start for the Hawks, allowing one run on one base hit and throwing three strikeouts in five innings

  • Jackson Joiner replaced Driver in the sixth inning, keeping the Mountaineers off the board and only allowing one base hit

  • Sam Tompkins closed the game for Huntingdon, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out one Mountaineer to complete the victory.

 

The Hawks look to stay perfect in conference play with their next series beginning on April 5th at Maryville. Gametime is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT.
