Maryville Takes Game Two From Huntingdon With Walk-off Homer

MARYVILLE, Tenn.- In the second game of their series, Huntingdon baseball(14-10 overall, 5-3 CCS) was taken down by the Maryville Scots(13-11 overall, 3-1 CCS) 6-3. Much like the first day, a walk off home run for Maryville gave the Scots a victory after an evenly contested matchup throughout the first eight innings.

 

Highlights

  • Huntingdon struck first in the opening frame with a single RBI from Matthew Robinson bringing home Daniel Phillips

  • Maryville responded in the following frame with two runs to take a 2-1 advantage

  • Following a scoreless second inning, the Scots pushed their advantage to 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning with a sacrifice fly to center field

  • With the defenses dominating the next four innings, the Hawks began to battle back in the eighth inning, as John Hale scored when Matthew Robinson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring Huntingdon within one at 3-2

  • With their backs against the wall in the top of the ninth inning with two outs, Jordan Raley stepped up to the plate and hit a double to left field, bringing home Davis Johnson for the game-tying run

  • Just like the first game of the series, in the final frame, Maryville was facing two outs and needed a base hit to force extra innings, where they hit a walk off 3 run home run to take game two against the Hawks 6-3

On the mound

  • Jable Ramey started on the mound for Huntingdon, allowing three runs on seven hits and throwing five strikeouts through five innings

  • Jackson Joiner closed the game for the Hawks and suffered his first loss on the season, allowing three runs on four hits.

The Hawks close out their series against Maryville tomorrow, April 7th, with a game scheduled for 12:00 PM CT.
