Hawks Drop Series At Maryville

MARYVILLE,Tenn.- In the final game of their road series, Huntingdon baseball(14-11 overall, 5-4 CCS) was defeated by the Scots of Maryville College(14-11 overall, 4-1 CCS) 10-4. The Hawks managed to secure three runs in the opening frame to take a quick lead, but Maryville responded quickly to even the score and eventually take the lead and the victory.

 

Highlights

  • Following two base hits from Daniel Phillips and Cade Morgan, Noah Phillips tripled at his first at bat to bring both of them home and give the Hawks a 2-0 lead early

  • Matthew Robinson singled at the following at bat, allowing Noah Phillips to cross home plate and give Huntingdon a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the first

  • Not to be outdone, Maryville responded in their opening frame at the plate with three runs to tie the game at three entering the second inning

  • Noah Phillips regained Huntingdon the lead with a double in the second inning to bring home Daniel Phillips and bring the score to 4-3

  • Maryville evened the score at four in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back, outscoring the Hawks 6-0 the rest of the way while only allowing one more base hit for Huntingdon to take the win 10-4

On the mound

  • Michael Driver drew the start for Huntingdon, allowing four runs on four hits through one inning

  • Jacob McFarling relieved Driver and saw his first action of the season, allowing three runs on three hits with four strikeouts

  • Sam Tompkins closed the game for the Hawks, allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts

The Hawks look to get back in the win column on April 9th where they travel to take on the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels. Gametime is scheduled for 3:00 PM CT.
