#5 Seeded Hawks Drop Opening Round To #2 Seed Belhaven
MARYVILLE,Tenn.- In the opening round of the CCS tournament, Huntingdon baseball(17-19 overall, 8-10 CCS) fell to the Blazers of Belhaven(24-15 overall, 12-5 CCS) 8-1. The Hawks scored the first run of the game and took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but a six run sixth inning from Belhaven allowed for them to pull away and take the win.
Highlights
- Following two scoreless innings, Huntingdon got on the board to start the third inning, with Noah Phillips singling to right field to bring home Daniel Phillips and give Huntingdon a 1-0 lead
- Belhaven evened the score at 1 in the bottom of the fourth inning off a ground out
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Blazers went on a 6 run tear, highlighted by a three run home run, to push their advantage to 7-1 entering the second inning
- The Hawks weren't able to generate any momentum at the plate for the rest of the game, with a Belhaven run in the seventh inning icing the game away, giving the Blazers an 8-1 victory
On the mound
- Seth Killam drew the start for the Hawks, allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out six batters through six innings
- Jackson Joiner replaced Killam in the seventh inning, allowing one run off one hit while facing three batters
- Caleb Griffis closed the game for Huntingdon, not allowing any hits or runs in the final inning
The Hawks face the loser of Maryville and Covenant tomorrow at 6:00 PM in the next round of the CCS Tournament.
