Hawks Drop Season-Opener To McMurry
SHREVEPORT, La.- Opening their season at the Gents Classic hosted by Centenary, Huntingdon baseball squared off with McMurry in the first game in the tournament. Despite recording an equal number of hits with the Warhawks(9), the Hawks would be taken down 8-0.
How it happened
Jay Davidson opened the game for Huntingdon with a single at the opening at-bat, but a double-play would put an end to the first inning for the Hawks. McMurry struck first on their fourth at-bat, taking a 1-0 lead into the second inning. The Hawks found themselves in an advantageous spot in the top of the second, with Cade Morgan, Byron McLain and Ty Pruitt each finding their way onto the bases with two outs. Unfortunately, Huntingdon couldn't capitalize, and the Warhawks survived the frame.
Huntingdon pitcher Jacob McFarling made quick work of the bottom frame, only allowing one hit to retire the side. A scoreless third inning left Huntingdon facing a 1 run deficit entering the fourth inning, but the Hawks were still unable to reach home plate, striking out to close the top frame. McMurry made the most of the opportunity, scoring two runs on one hit to take a 3-0 lead into the fifth. No runs were scored in the fifth or sixth innings, but the Warhawks erupted in the bottom frame of the seventh, taking advantage of 2 Hawk errors with five hits and four runs, extending their lead to 8-0 heading into the final two innings. In the end, the Hawks couldn't answer, taking the 8-0 loss.
