Hawks Fall In Neutral Site Shootout With Rhodes
SHREVEPORT, La.- Looking to avenge their season-opening loss to McMurry in the first game of the Gents Classic, Huntingdon Baseball suited up today in Shreveport, this time facing off with Rhodes College. In the high-scoring affair, the Hawks were ultimately defeated 8-7 by the Lynx.
How it happened
Rhodes opened the game on fire, putting up 4 runs on 4 hits in the opening frame. The Hawks battled back in the bottom frame however, with Jay Davidson scoring Huntingdon's first run of the season on a wild pitch. Sam Kelley followed with a sacrifice fly, bringing home Cade Morgan for the Hawks second run before Brent Honaker's rbi single allowed Brodie Holcomb to score, putting the Hawks down 4-3 entering the second inning.
The Lynx maintained their momentum as the second inning got underway, drilling a single-run shot over the fence to push their lead to 5-3. In response, Huntingdon kept their stride, with Davidson dropping a ball into right field that allowed for Ty Pruitt to cross home plate and bring the score to 5-4. The Hawks tied things at 5 in the bottom of the third, with Jabez Sampson's single bringing home Byron McLain.
Rhodes found a way to reclaim their lead in the top of the 5th, scoring on an rbi single to go in front 6-5. Their lead would be short-lived though, with Ty Pruitt bringing home both McLain and Honaker to hand Huntingdon their first lead of the game, 7-6, entering the 6th inning. The Lynx went on to tie things again in the 6th, 7-7.
After two scoreless innings, Rhodes finally broke the ice in the top frame of the 9th with another RBI single, and the Hawks couldn't match, falling 8-7.
