Hawks Wrap Up The Gents Classic With Loss To Centenary
SHREVEPORT, La.- Taking the field for the third and final time at the Gents Classic, Huntingdon Baseball looked to avenge their previous two losses in a showdown with the host, Centenary College. In a game dominated by defense, the Hawks ultimately came up short, falling 2-1 to the Gents.
How it happened
Each team's defense started the game on a high note, as the first two innings of the matchup saw just 4 total hits between the two teams. Senior shortstop Cade Morgan ultimately broke the ice in the top frame of the third inning, singling up the middle to bring home Blayne McDaniel for the first run of the game. Sophomore pitcher JB Landrum continued to anchor Huntingdon's defensive effort as the game wore on, allowing just 5 total base hits in as many innings. Eventually, the Gents were able to capitalize on an offensive opportunity, drilling a two-run shot over the fence to take a 2-1 lead into the 7th inning. The Hawks had chances in the final stages of the game, with Morgan and McDaniel each getting on base, but the offense stalled, allowing Centenary to escape with the 2-1 lead.
