
Hawks Baseball Defeats Vermont State To Cap Off Perfect Weekend
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- In order to complete their perfect weekend, Huntingdon Baseball defeated the Spartans of Vermont State-Castleton for the second time in two days, 6-2.
With their win today, Huntingdon cements a 3-0 record on the weekend to move to 9-4 overall on the season.
How it happened
The Hawks struck first in the first inning, as Byron McLain singled to score Sam Kelley and give Huntingdon the lead 1-0 entering the second inning. Vermont State managed to even things at 1 in the top frame of the third inning, crossing home plate on a RBI single to bring things to a tie.
The Hawks reclaimed their lead in the bottom frame of the fourth inning, as McLain singled yet again, scoring Brodie Holcomb to make the score 2-1 before the fifth inning. Things were tied yet again at top frame of the fifth inning, with the Spartans crossing home plate on a Huntingdon error to deadlock things at 2 entering the sixth inning.
As the sixth inning got underway, Cade Morgan and Sam Kelley took back the lead for the Hawks off a Spartan error, bringing the score to 4-2. Brodie Holcomb brought a close to the inning with a run off a sacrifice from Dalton Kuhn as the Huntingdon lead expanded to 5-2.
Kuhn followed up in the 8th inning with a single to score Holcomb, icing the game and giving the Hawks the 6-2 victory.
Jable Ramey drew the start for the Hawks, allowing two runs on six hits while pitching five strikeouts as he picked up his first win on the year. Parker Szush took to the mound in the 7th inning, recording his first save of the 2025 season, pitching three strikeouts while allowing just three base hits.
The Hawks look to keep rolling as they host Eastern Mennonite on March 4th. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM CT.
