Hawks Drop Conference-Opener At Covenant
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.- Traveling to Covenant College for their first Collegiate Conference of the South series this season, Huntingdon Baseball fell to the Scots 1-0 in a defensive battle.
As the game got underway, both teams controlled the pace of the matchup from the mound. Through the 7th inning, Huntingdon's pitcher Jacob McFarling managed to keep Covenant off the scoreboard, allowing just 4 hits while striking out six Scots. On the offensive end however, the Hawks struggeled to find a rhythm as well, picking up the first of their lone two hits in the top of the fifth inning with a single by way of Brent Honaker. Covenant finally broke the long-lasting stalemate in the bottom of the 8th inning, scoring a run to claim the 1-0 lead. Jay Davidson led-off the ninth inning with a single up the middle, but the Hawks couldn't find their way across home plate, taking the 1-0 loss.
McFarling pitched all 9 innings for Huntingdon, allowing seven total hits while walking 1 batter.
The Hawks return to action in their series with the Scots tomorrow, March 14th, with a double-header. Games are scheduled for 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM CT.
