Hawks Drop Series Opener At Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss.- After dropping their final two non-conference battles of the regular season, Huntingdon Baseball returned to CCS action on the road, traveling to face Belhaven University.

Despite having three more hits than the Blazers, the Hawks couldn't break through, dropping 2-0 to the preseason conference favorites.

How it happened

After a first inning that saw just one total hit between the two teams, Belhaven broke the ice with on a Huntingdon error in the bottom frame of the second inning. The Hawks responded in the third by putting Blayne McDaniel and Ty Pruitt, but saw the frame come to an end as McDaniel was thrown out at third base. This made way for the Blazers to extend their lead to 2-0 on a sacrifice fly, and that proved to be all they needed. Huntingdon pieced together seven hits throughout the rest of the contest, with Pruitt and Sam Kelley leading the way with two each, all while limiting Belhaven to six on the game, but weren't able to find the spark needed to cross home plate, falling to 16-12 on the season and 5-5 in conference play.

On the mound

Jacob McFarling drew the start for the Hawks and fell to 4-4 on the season, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five Blazers in 6.1 innings of play. Jable Ramey closed the game for Huntingdon, throwing four strikeouts while limiting Belhaven to just 1 hit in 1.2 innings.

The Hawks close out their series with the Blazers in a double-header tomorrow, April 12th. Games are set for 1:00 and 4:00 PM CT.
