Huntingdon’s Pridgen and Wright named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society
IRVING, Texas – Two Huntingdon football players were named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame's Hampshire Honor Society on Wednesday.
Offensive lineman Chael Pridgen and linebacker Jacob Wright were among the 868 players from 275 schools named to the 2016 Hampshire Honor Society.
To be eligible for the Hampshire Honor Society, a player must have been a starter or significant contributor during their last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA or NAIA institution, maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers and met all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements and graduation.
The 868 student-athletes recognized this year are the most in a single-season since the inception of the program in 2007. A total of 6,620 student-athletes have been honored in the history of the program.
Since 2007, Huntingdon is one of 32 schools in the NCAA and NAIA to have at least one student-athlete recognized each year. With this year's selections, a total of 45 Hawks have been recognized.
Huntingdon was one of five schools in Alabama to have at least one player selected this year. In addition to Huntingdon's selections, Auburn University had three players named (Duncan McKinney, Tucker Tuberville and Jonathan Wallace), the University of North Alabama had two players named (Lee Mayhall and Luke Wingo) and the University of Alabama (Ryan Kelly) and Faulkner University (Elliott Graves) each had one.
