
Hawks Football Drops Season Opener To #24 Berry
MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In their first game of the season, Huntingdon football(0-1 overall), fell to the #24 ranked Vikings of Berry College(1-0 overall) 43-7.
How it happened
Receiving the ball first, Huntingdon went three-and-out on the opening drive of the game, allowing Berry to draw first blood at 13:56 mark in the quarter with a 61 yard rushing touchdown. The Hawks managed to move the ball down the field on the following possessions, with runningbacks Troy Garner and Rayshawn Williams carrying the load on the 56 yard drive. Ultimately however, the drive would stall and the Hawks could not convert on fourth down, turning the ball back over to Berry with 9 minutes remaining in the quarter.
The Vikings went on to score two more touchdowns in the quarter, taking a 22-0 lead into the second quarter. Huntingdon responded on their first drive of the second quarter with their first touchdown of the season, as quarterback Dorian Smith was able to find RJ White for a 12 yard receiving touchdown. The Hawks defense managed to pitch a shutout throughout the second quarter, but the offense could not capitalize, going into halftime trailing 22-7.
In the second half, Huntingdon's offense couldn't find their groove, being forced to punt on each of their offensive possessions. Capitalizing off of their strong defensive efforts, Berry would score 21 unanswered points, taking the 43-7 victory.
