Huntingdon men’s basketball falls in GSAC semis

LaGRANGE, Ga. – LaGrange pulled away in the second half to end the Huntingdon men's season on Friday.

The Hawks battled with LaGrange for more than a half, but the Panthers took a 76-67 win in the Great South Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. The loss was the Hawks' third of the season to LaGrange (12-14).

"Our guys played hard, we just couldn't make our shots, "Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh said. "We kept battling until the end, but we couldn't make the shots when we needed them."

LaGrange will play the winner of Maryville and Piedmont in the men's GSAC championship game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. (Central).

Huntingdon (7-19) took a 36-35 lead on a Jason Varney 3-pointer early in the second half. But a 13-2 run by LaGrange broke the game open. LaGrange led by double digits for the final 10 minutes of the game.

Courtnee Edgar led Huntingdon with 12 points. Kanden Blackmon added 11 points and Jeremiah Thomas finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and five blocks. Austin Hill pulled down 10 rebounds for Huntingdon.

GSAC Freshman of the Year Kyron Anderson led LaGrange with 23 points and six rebounds. Denzel Robinson added 15 points and 15 rebounds and Nick Mitchell had 15 points and seven rebounds. Aaron Power and Joey Anderkavich each finished with 10 points. Power had seven rebounds and Anderkavich had nine rebounds.
