Hawks fall to Oglethorpe in OT

ATLANTA – The Huntingdon men's basketball team took Oglethorpe to overtime but came up short 94-86 on Saturday in the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Holiday Classic.

Huntingdon led 40-35 at the half and led for most of the second half before Oglethorpe took the lead in the final two minutes. The Hawks (1-7) trailed 79-74 with 26 seconds left in the second half before Jerome Davis and Raheem Berry scored five points to tie the game. Davis hit a layup and a free throw with 26 seconds left and Berry hit two free throws with 20 seconds left.

Oglethorpe (10-2) missed two free throws with two seconds left and a putback attempt just before the buzzer. But Oglethorpe set the tone in overtime. Sparked by a 7-0 run, the Stormy Petrels outscored the Hawks 15-7 in overtime.

Five Hawks scored in double figures and combined for 73 points. Berry led Huntingdon with 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Alex Layson added 17 points, five rebounds and three assists, Davis finished with 14 points and six assists, R.J. Jones hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and Andre Ashley had 10 points and eight rebounds.

"The guys played their hearts out," Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh said. "Despite being shorthanded and being in foul trouble, the guys kept battling. Raheem played one of the best games he's had for us and Alex, Jerome, R.J. and Andre all scored in double figures. We're playing hard and we just have to keep working."
