Huntingdon loses close battle with Maryville

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team took Maryville College to the final seconds but came up short 72-70 on Saturday.

In a game that featured five lead changes and was tied 12 times, neither team could build more than an eight-point lead. The two teams remained within five points of each other for more than 37 minutes of the game.

The Hawks cut Maryville's lead to a point twice in the final minutes of the game, but could not overtake the Scots. James Harris made two free throws with 3:21 remaining to cut the score to 66-65 and Damien Madison sank two free throws with 1:05 to play to make it 68-67.

Maryville answered Madison's free throws, with a field goal and two free throws to make it 72-67 with 22 seconds on the clock. Aaron Washington hit a 3-pointer for the Hawks with 11 seconds remaining to make it a two-point game.

Huntingdon was able to take one more shot before the buzzer but the shot did not fall.

Harris led Huntingdon with 16 points, Washington added 14 points and Madison had 12 points. Ceaunte Zachery finished with 10 points, Charvez' Hobson had a team-high seven rebounds and Mykel Woods had four blocks.
