Huntingdon loses to Brevard in overtime

BREVARD, N.C.  – The Huntingdon men's basketball team closed the regular season with an 84-80 loss in overtime to Brevard College.

Despite the loss, the Hawks will enter the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the West Division. Huntingdon will host Piedmont in the opening round of the conference tournament on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

This is the second straight season Huntingdon has qualified for the conference tournament.

In Saturday's game, the Hawks played from behind in the first half, trailing by as many as 10 points, before taking the lead in the second half. Huntingdon built a 15-point lead twice  in the second half, the final time on a 3-pointer by Damien Madison with 7:38 to play.

But Brevard began to rally in the final minutes and used a 10-0 run to tie the game at the end of regulation, 69-69. In overtime, Huntingdon led early before Brevard pulled ahead to seal the game.

Jacob Champion had 18 points for Huntingdon on 6-of-8 shooting from 3-point range. Madison had 13 points and six assists and Aaron Washington had 13 points.

Mykel Woods added 10 points, Charvez' Hobson had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals, James Harris finished with seven points and nine rebounds and Caleb Toney had eight rebounds.
