Hawks defeated by the Vikings

Montgomery, Alabama – In day two of the Hawks Classic presented by Moe's Southwest Grill, the Hawks were defeated by Berry 79-63.

In the first half, the Vikings took a three-point lead from the tip. A low scoring first 4 minutes brought a tie ball game at 6 with 16 left in the half. The Hawks gained their first lead of the game at 15-12 from a 3-pointer by Reese Harden. Huntingdon kept the lead for the first half until there was 2:27 remaining. A constant battle for the remaining two minutes would leave the Hawks behind heading into halftime with a deficit of 7. (45-38)

First half key stats:

Max Gardner had 9 points and Nate Johns added 8 for the Hawks.

Both the Hawks and Vikings were 4-9 from behind the arc, 44%.

Berry shot 9 free-throws, while the Hawks only shot one.

 

To begin the second half, Huntingdon struck first with a layup by Tate Goolesby. Both teams went scoreless for the next 3:30 of the game. Chase Dumas stepped up for the Hawks to knock down two free-throws to bring the game within 3 points. (49-46) Sam Page sparked more energy for the Hawks as he knocked down a 3 to tie the game at 49 with 14:00 left. Taking their first lead since 2:16 left in the first half, the Hawks went up 1 with 10 minutes to go. (56-55) Berry reclaimed their lead at 7:00 minutes with a made free-throw (59-58). Berry gradually began to pull away with a pair of 3-point shots and fast break lay-ups. The ending score being 79-63.

Second half key stats:

Chase Dumas added 6 points for the Hawks.

Hawks shot 5 more free throws than the Vikings (12-7)

The Hawks travel to LaGrange College on Friday November 18th and Saturday November 19th to compete against Sewanee and Birmingham Southern.
