Hawks Fall to the Owls of MUW

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks dropped to the Owls 79-66.

In the first half, the Hawks started strong with an early 4-0 run in the first minute and a half. The run was followed by a three pointer from MUW (4-3). Huntingdon turned the ball over for the Owls to score a fast break layup to tie the game at 7 with 15 minutes remaining in the half. The Hawks and Owls traded buckets for the next five minutes until the Owls took their first lead of the night off a three pointer (18-16). Huntingdon reclaimed their lead with 7 minutes left by a jump shot from Daquan Hawkins (20-18). The lead changed 4 more times in the remaining minutes of the first half until the Hawks claimed the lead with a late three pointer by freshman, Marcus Townsend with 2 seconds on the clock. The score going into halftime was 32-31, Hawks.

First Half Notes:

Huntingdon shot 50% from the field, going 14-28 with 3 made threes

MUW shot 48% from the field, going 13-27 with 3 made threes

Huntingdon out rebounded the Owls 15-11

 

The downfall of the second half was determined by free throws and rebounds. Once the Owls claimed the lead with 16:35 on the clock, the Hawks would be unable to reign again (38-37). Back-to-back three pointers set the Owls apart, but the Hawks held on and answered with a fast break lay up and a pair of free throws to tie the game at 42 with 14 minutes remaining. Within 4 minutes the Owls went on an 8-0 run to pull away (50-42). Huntingdon fouled and sent MUW to the bonus with 6:39 remaining in the game. The Owls shot 17 free-throws, making 10, while the Hawks went 5-8 from the free-throw line in the second half. The Hawks were unable to bring the score within more than 6 points in the final 3 minutes of the game.

Second Half Notes:

The Hawks were out rebounded 20-11

Nate Johns had 12 Points with 2 threes

The Owls shot 56% from the field, 17-30
