Hawks Drop Game to Belhaven

Jackson, Mississippi – In the Collegiate Conference of the South matchup the Hawks fell to Belhaven on the road 88-69. The Hawks are now 1-12 and 0-1 in the Conference and Belhaven is 6-5 and 2-0.

The Blazers knocked down a three in the first fifteen seconds of the game to claim the lead that the Hawks would be unable to overcome. The Hawks battled to tie the game at 6 with 17 minutes in the first half to go, but a Huntingdon foul sent Belhaven to the line to regain the two-point lead. (8-6) That lead turned to seven with 13 minutes in the half that were followed by layups from Chase Dumas and Max Gardner which brought Huntingdon back within three, 19-16. Belhaven made another shot beyond the arc to create separation. Down six with 4:32 left, the Blazers ended the half on a run of 10-6 and be up by 10 at the half. (40-30)

To begin the second half the Hawks fought early to bring the game back within six with two made baskets from leading scorer, Nate Johns. Belhaven answered with two of their own baskets while Nate Johns finished his scoring run with a three pointer. (44-37) The Blazers kept a ten-point lead until the 8-minute mark when the Hawks scored a layup and brought the game within nine, 59-50, but a 6-0 run by Belhaven pushed the lead and Huntingdon was not able to come within 10 points for the remainder of the game.

For the game, Huntingdon shot 40% from the field, while Belhaven shot 47%. The Hawks only shot 47% from the free throw line and the Blazers shot 78%.
