Hawks Downed by Maryville

Maryville, Tennessee – The Hawks, now 1-16 overall and 0-5 in the CCS fell to the Scots (9-8, 3-2) in their conference matchup 96-61.

The Scots were able to claim the first lead with a 6-0 run to begin the game. Huntingdon clawed back to tie the game at 13 with a made free-throw by freshman, Rashawn Knox. Two made free-throws after the media timeout gave Maryville the two-point lead. Leading scorer Nate Johns dropped a mid range jumper to tie the game back at 15 that was followed up with a made jumper from Marcus Townsend at the 8:32 minute mark to give the Hawks their first lead of the night (17-15). Maryville took back the lead with seven minutes to go in the half as they drilled a three-pointer. For the next three minutes, both teams exchanged baskets until the Scots made a run to get their largest lead of the night, 10 (33-23). With three minutes to go in the first half, the Hawks scored some key buckets, including some from the free-throw line to bring the game back within 4 points heading into halftime (36-32).

 

The first five minutes of the second half began with a 14-6 run led by Maryville to create distance in their lead. Huntingdon continued to attack and with two made free-throws they were able to bring the game back within ten points. Maryville's lead continued to grow in the remaining ten minutes of the game as they hit five three's that went unanswered by the Hawks.
