MONTGOMERY, Ala.- In day 2 of the Hawks Classic, Huntingdon men's basketball (2-1 Overall), bounced back from their day 1 loss and defeated the Majors of Millsaps College (0-2 Overall) 87-71.

 

Highlights

 

First Half

  •  The Hawks flew out of the gates to open this game, taking a 10-2 lead at the 15:23 mark. Shots from Tate Goolsby, Max Gardner, and Randall Davis gave the Hawks the early advantage.

  • With 13:32 remaining in the half, a three point shot from freshman guard BJ Brown pushed Huntingdon's lead to 9, leading the Majors 16-7.

  • An 8-4 scoring run from Millsaps cut Huntingdon's lead down to 5, 20-15, with 10:38 remaining in the half.

  • An alley-oop from BJ Brown to Max Gardner pushed Huntingdon's lead to 27-15 with 8:01 remaining in the half

  • Gaining momentum from Gardner's slam, Chase Dumas and BJ Brown would each drill three-point shots, pushing Huntingdon's lead to 33-17 with 6 minutes to go in the half.

  • Huntingdon closed the half on a 6-2 run, leading Millsaps 43-33 at halftime.

 

Second Half 

  • The two teams traded baskets for the early portion of the second half, with the Hawks leading 48-37 with 15:33 remaining in the half

  • A three point shot from Chase Dumas extended the Huntingdon lead to 51-37 with 15 minutes to go.

  • With 9:50 remaining in the game, Jaylen Washington threw down a fast break dunk to give Huntingdon a 60-48 lead over the Majors.

  • Bj Brown would catch fire at the 7:57 mark, accounting for  9 of Huntingdon's next 11 points, pushing the Hawks ahead 72-58 with 5:18 remaining

  • A Caleb Boon three pointer would ice the game, putting the Hawks ahead 87-69 with 1:18 remaining in the game. A Millsaps free throw brought the game to a final score of 87-70.
