Hawks snap streak with win over PCC

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Huntingdon Men's Basketball (3-4 Overall), defeated Pensacola Christian (2-6 Overall) 78-67.

 

Highlights

 

First Half

  • The beginning of the game started off fast for the Hawks as they jumped out to an 8-3 lead, capped off by a three point shot by Tate Goolesby with 17:31 on the clock.
  • The following few minutes of the game contained back and forth action between both sides. Pensacola Christian would take their first lead of the game since their first bucket, with a jumper at the 12:17 mark, making the score 13-12.
  • With 8:59 remaining, BJ Brown connected with a shot from three point range to cut the deficit from 4 to 1, making the score 20-19.
  • A combination of baskets from Nate Johns, Tate Goolesby, and Myles Murphy led the Hawks to tie the game at 27, with 5:05 left in the half.
  • For the next couple of minutes, the game would take a slower pace as both teams showed defensive prowess. Pensacola Christian took the lead back with a three point shot at the 2:52 mark of the half.
  • Closing out the second half, Max Gardner hit a jumper at the height of a 9-2 run that gave the Hawks a 38-32 lead with 28 seconds left in the half.
  • Pensacola Christian responded with a jumper of their own, with 13 seconds left, to close out the half.
  • The score at the end of the first half was 38-34.

 

Second Half

  • Both teams came out of the locker room with energy on the offensive side as they both were scoring baskets. The teams would go back and forth, as Pensacola Christian hit a three pointer to tie the game at 42 with 17:39 left in the game.
  • With 17:29 remaining, Jaylen Washington would respond with a shot from deep of his own, giving Huntingdon a lead of 45-42.
  • Pensacola Christian would later cut their deficit to one, with a jumper, making the score 49-48 with 13:25 on the clock.
  • The Hawks would start to pull away in the second half with a 8-0 run capped off by a jumper from Nate Johns. This made the score 57-48 with 9:46 left in the half.
  • With 6:59 remaining, the Hawks would extend their lead to double digits as Randall Davis hit a jumper to put the Hawks up 63-53.
  • The Hawks looked to close out the game strong with defensive stops and transition opportunities on offense. They did this by going on a 14-5 run in the final minutes, giving them a 78-59 lead with 1:32 left in the game.
  • With 1:07 left on the clock, Pensacola Christian was able to end their scoring drought with a three point shot making the score 78-62.
  • To close out the game, Pensacola Christian went on a 5-0 run topped off by a three pointer and jumper to cut their deficit to 78-67.
  • The final score of the game was 78-67.

 

Key Notes

  • Pensacola Christian shot an overall 44% from the field, while shooting 9 out of 23 from deep, meanwhile the Hawks shot 41% overall, including going 4 of 21 from three point territory.
  • Huntingdon shot 56% from the free throw line, while Pensacola Christian managed to shoot an even 50%.
  • The Hawks outrebounded the Eagles 42-35
  • Pensacola Chistian committed 19 turnovers, while Huntingdon was able to keep their turnovers down to 8.
