The Hawks Fall At Rhodes
MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Wrapping up their road trip with a final pit-stop in Memphis, Huntingdon men's basketball suffered their first loss of the season to Rhodes College. The Hawks fell victim to a hot shooting night for the Lynx, as Rhodes converted on nearly 50% of their shots from deep, and Huntingdon couldn't match on the other end, taking the 85-73 loss.
First Half
- Taking advantage of early opportunities from the charity stripe, the Lynx managed to jump out to an 8-0 lead by the 16:11 mark. BJ Brown's layup on the other end got the scoring going for the Hawks, but Rhodes managed to push their advantage to 19-9 with 13 minutes remaining in the half
- Led by Jaylon Stevenson, RayQuan Taylor, and Eric Moore, the Hawks went on a run to cut the deficit to 25-20 by the 7 minute mark
- BJ Brown knifed through the lane nearing the 5 minute mark to put the Hawks within one, 25-24, but a 7-0 run for the Lynx pushed their lead back to 34-26 with 51 seconds to go until halftime
- Jaylen Washington followed a pair of free throws from Myles Murphy with a three-pointer to put the Hawks within 3, 34-31, with 8 seconds left, but Rhodes matched it on the other end with a triple of their own to take a 37-31 lead into the halftime break
Second Half
- As the second half got underway, the Lynx matched baskets from Nate Johns and BJ Browns with three-pointers on the other end, raising their advantage to 43-33 in the opening two minutes
- Brown and Johns continued to shoulder the load on the offensive end for Huntingdon, each contributing as the lead was reduced to 47-40 by the 16:57 mark
- Over the next two minutes, Rhodes would piece together an 8-0 run that extended their lead to 55-40 by the 14:36 mark. Jeremy Autin put in a layup on the following possession to momentarily stop the bleeding, but another Lynx run, this time 7-0, put the Hawks behind 62-42 with 13:23 to go
- As the second half wore on, the two teams would trade baskets on alternating possessions. With five and-a-half minutes remaining, BJ Brown's and-1 finish would spark a 7-0 run that saw the Hawks cut into the lead and make the score 69-54, but Rhodes, yet again, responded with a triple on the other end. In the end, the Hawks would start to find their groove, but would run out of time, falling 85-73.
