Season Sweep Of LaGrange Headlines Hawks Historic Victory

LAGRANGE, Ga.- Coming off a last-second loss to the Scots of Maryville College, Huntingdon men's basketball traveled to face LaGrange in a road conference contest. BJ Brown's 23 point effort combined with a highly efficient 50% field goal percentage put the Hawks in position to take a 97-79 victory.

With this victory, the Hawks have completed a season sweep of LaGrange for the first time since the 2019-2020 season, while simultaneously recording their 14th win of the season, making this the program's first time reaching 14 wins since the 2005-2006 season.

First Half

  • Following baskets from BJ Brown and Jaylen Washington, the Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the 17:55 mark
  • The Panthers answered with a run to even things at 10 by the 14:41 mark
  • The Hawks caught fire at the 14:26 mark, with Washington drilling a three-pointer to spark a 9-0 Huntingdon run. Nate Johns' layup at the 13:00 mark brought the Hawks lead to 19-10
  • Myles Murphy tipped-in a missed shot to give Huntingdon their first double-digit lead of the game, 23-12, by the 11:20 mark
  • The Panthers knocked down a three-pointer at the 5:22 mark to cut the Hawks lead to 33-25, but Huntingdon answered with a 11-3 run to raise their lead to 44-28 entering the final two minutes of the half
  • Trading baskets as the half drew near, Tate Goolesby's layup inside the final minute gave Huntingdon a 48-33 lead heading into the halftime break

Second Half

  • LaGrange opened the second half with a 5-1 run to cut Huntingdon's lead to 49-38 inside the first minute of play
  • Leading 59-49, the Hawks opened up a 11-2 run to push their lead to 70-51 with 14:29 remaining
  • The Panthers responded with a 7-0 run to bring the score to 70-58 with 12 minutes to go
  • Trading baskets and stops over the following minutes, a pair of Martise Jackson free throws raised the Hawks lead to 82-64 with 6:48 remaining before Jaylen Washington's layup on the ensuing possession brought the Hawks lead to 20, 84-64
  • As the game was coming to a close, DaQuan Hawkins knocked down a shot from deep with less than two minutes to go, cementing the Hawks 97-79 road conference victory
