Hawks Light It Up Against Covenant On Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Returning to action for the first time since their loss at Belhaven, Huntingdon men's basketball played host to Covenant College for Senior Day. The Hawks were hot, shooting 56% from the field and 37% from three en route to an emphatic 129-94 victory on Senior Day.

Prior to the start of the game, Huntingdon recognized the program's 8 seniors for their contributions both on and off the court throughout their time as a Hawk. This year's seniors were DaQuan Hawkins, Nate Johns, Martise Jackson, Jeremiah Carnegie, Tate Goolesby, Jaylen Washington, Randall Davis, and Richie Hicks.

First Half

  • The Hawks got out of the gates quickly, putting up 16 points in the first 3 minutes. Ray'Quan Taylor's slam off an assist from Eric Moore served to further ignite Huntingdon's hot start, bringing their lead to 21-9 by the 16 minute mark
  • Another 8-3 run, capped off by a triple from Keyshawn Dickey, extended the Hawks lead to 29-12 around the 14 minute mark in the half
  • With 10 and a half minutes to go until halftime, BJ Brown sank a pair of free throws to pause a short Covenant run. Nonetheless, the Hawks still held a 35-19 lead
  • The Scots cut the Hawks lead to 37-27 by the 7 minute mark, but Nate Johns threw down his second dunk of the night two minutes later to spark a 12-2 Huntingdon run that extended the lead to 56-36 with 2:36 to go until halftime
  • Another run for the Scots cut Huntingdon's lead to 58-46, but baskets from Johns and Martise Jackson kept the Hawks firmly in control, 62-47 at halftime

Second Half

  • After trading three pointers on each of their opening possessions, consecutive layups from Tate Goolesby extended the Hawks lead to 71-50 by the 17:50 mark
  • Another 9-0 Huntingdon run brought the lead to 80-55 with 15:47 to go
  • Leading 82-63 with 13:30 remaining, DaQuan Hawkins hit a shot from deep not only to return the Huntingdon lead to 20, 85-63, but also to spark a 13-3 run that grew the Hawks advantage to 95-66 with 10 minutes to play
  • Johns put in a layup at the 7:32 mark to reach the 100 point threshold, as Huntingdon led 100-76
  • Another dunk from Johns put the Hawks lead at 30, 107-77 with 5:30 to go
  • The Scots tried to mount a run late, but the Hawks kept their hot hand, with Richie Hicks' three-pointer at the 1:41 mark putting a stamp on Huntingdon's 129-94 CCS victory.

Hawk Top Performers

The Hawks welcome Piedmont University to Roland Arena for their final regular season game on February 21st. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM CT.
