
Men's Basketball Completes Season Sweep Of Piedmont To Close Regular Season
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- In their final game of the 2024-2025 regular season, Huntingdon men's basketball faced off with the Piedmont Lions at home in Roland Arena. In the CCS matchup the Hawks led from end-to-end, taking care of business in a 94-84 victory.
First Half
- The Hawks jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, largely in part due to baskets from Martise Jackson and BJ Brown. By the 14:34 mark, Myles Murphy cashed in on a layup to put the Hawks in front 10-5
- The Lions brought the lead to as little as 12-10 around the 12 minute mark, but Jaylen Stevenson's triple on the following possession brought the lead back to 15-10
- DaQuan Hawkins followed a three pointer from Brown with a pair of free throws to extend the Hawks lead to 24-14 with 9:33 remaining in the first half
- 5 consecutive points from Jackson put the Hawks ahead 29-16, but Piedmont answered with a short run to bring the score to 31-22 by the 5:29 mark
- The Lions pieced together a seperate run to cut the Huntingdon lead to 35-29, but back-to-back baskets from Jaylen Washington extended the Huntingdon lead to 40-29 by the 2:59 mark
- The two teams continued to trade blows, but Martise Jackson's three pointer with three seconds left in the half gave Huntingdon the halftime advantage 50-42
Second Half
- A 7-2 Hawks run to start the second half pushed the advantage to 57-44 by the 18:18 mark
- The Lions pieced together another run to cut the deficit to 61-51 by the 15 minute mark, but the Hawks responded with Hawkins, Randall Davis, and Ray'Quan Taylor to push their lead back to double-digits, 70-55 by the 10:48 mark
- A 10-2 Piedmont run cut the Huntingdon lead, once again, to 72-65, but the Hawks stayed steady on the offensive end, relying on baskets from Tate Goolesby, Nate Johns, and Martise Jackson to maintain their lead. By the 5:21 mark, the Hawks held on to a 80-66 lead
- Leading 88-76 with three minutes remaining in regulation, the Hawks held off the Lions hot shooting from behind the arc with consistency from the free throw line, allowing Huntingdon to maintain their lead and secure the 94-84 conference victory to close the regular season

Finishing the regular season with an overall record of 19-6(8-4 CCS), the Hawks await news of their seeding for the upcoming Collegiate Conference of the South tournament. Quarterfinals are set to begin on Tuesday, February 25th, with the 3 and 4 seeds hosting before the final four teams travel to the #1 overall seed.
