HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team opened the season with a 6-under-par 282 in the opening round of the NCAA DIII Fall Preview.

Entering Monday's second round at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort, Huntingdon is one stroke off the lead in the 18-team field. Wittenberg leads the field at 7-under 281. Emory is third at 1-under 287.

Senior Will Thrash led Huntingdon with his best round as a Hawk. Thrash's 5-under 67 is tied for first with Wittenberg's Isaac Hartley.

Two other Hawks are in the top-15 entering the second round. Senior Addison Lambeth is tied for sixth with a 2-under 70 and junior Jon Colten Stanaland is tied for 14th with an even-par 72.

One stroke behind Stanaland, senior Chad Ring is tied for 26th at 1-over 73. Freshman Alex Aulerich is tied for 43rd with a 4-over 76.

"The boys got off to a rocky start, but man did they turn it on," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "Will played awesome today. We have a ton of firepower on this team, so I am expecting some really low scores out of this group this year. We have two more days, but I feel like the boys are very confident. Our goal is to play a little better every day."
