Thrash named USA South Golfer of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon senior Will Thrash was named USA South Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

The Prattville, Ala. native earned his second career win on Tuesday, as he claimed medalist honors in the NCAA Division III Fall Preview at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Thrash shot a 4-under 212 to win the tournament by three strokes. Thrash fired a career-best 5-under 67 in the opening round, 3-over 75 in the second round and closed the tournament with a 2-under 70.

In addition to his win, Thrash led a Huntingdon team that took home its first win of the season. The Hawks shot 4-over 868 and won the tournament by 21 strokes. Three Hawks placed in the top-six.

Golfer of the Week
Will Thrash, Huntingdon - The senior from Prattville, Alabama earned medalist honors at the Division III Championship Fall Preview at Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida last week by shooting a two-under par 212. In the three-day event, Thrash opened with a five-under par 67, followed with a three-over par 75 and finished with a two-under par 70. His performance helped the Hawks win the tournament. Also Nominated: Marshall Kent, Covenant; Samuli Ahvenoja, Averett.

 

Golf Rookie of the Week
Grant Powell, Greensboro - The freshman from Greensboro, North Carolina finished tied for 15th the Division III Championship Fall Preview at Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida last week by shooting a seven-over par 223. In the three-day event, Powell opened with a one-under par 71, followed with a four-over par 76 and finished with a four-under par 76. His performance helped the Pride to a 16th place team finish. Also Nominated: None.
