Thrash and Lambeth lead Hawks in Emory Spring Invitational

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Senior Will Thrash is tied for first, senior Addison Lambeth is tied for fourth and the top-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team leads the field after the first round of the Emory Spring Invitational.

In a 15-team field that includes seven of the top 10 teams in Division III, Huntingdon shot 9-over-par 289 in Saturday's opening round and carries a two-stroke lead into Sunday's final round. Third-ranked Emory is two strokes back at 291 and 18th-ranked Berry College is third at 292.

"We are very fortunate to be leading after Round 1," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "I believe we were plus-12 through six holes, but the boys managed to salvage a solid round. Both Will and Addison had a chance to really go low, but the putts were not falling.

"The real winner today was Smoke Rise Country Club because it was playing really tough."

Thrash shot a 1-under 69 in the first round and is in a three-way tie for first with Berry's Ryan Elmore and Greensboro's Luke Grogan. Lambeth shot an even-par 70 and is tied for fourth.

Sophomore Mark Connelly is tied for 20th with a 4-over 74 and sophomore Stephen Shephard is tied for 35th with a 6-over 76. Senior Chad Ring shot 79 in the first round.

Playing as individuals, junior Jon Colten Stanaland shot 78 and freshman Alex Aulerich shot 81.
